Description:

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Wellbeing Expo

Lockyer Valley residents are invited to attend the region’s inaugural Wellbeing Expo, set to feature activities for the entire family.

Organised by Lockyer Valley Regional Council, the event will be held at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre on Saturday 15 October.

The purpose of the day is to increase understanding and access to services and facilities that promote wellbeing, self care and healthy lifestyles.

The event will also coincide with National Mental Health Week.

Council’s Mayor Steve Jones encouraged all Lockyer Valley residents to be aware of the importance of good mental health and wellbeing.

“A healthy community means a happy and successful community and that is what we want for the Lockyer Valley,” Cr Jones said.

Cr Jones said it was also an opportunity for residents to contact the wide range of facilities and services available in the Lockyer Valley.

“Access to services and facilities is also important – community members must have access to appropriate services, facilities and resources in rural areas,” he said.

Major sponsor Rotary will donate $2500 to the event.

“We thank and commend Rotary for their generous support of the Wellbeing Expo,” Cr Jones said.

“As always, Rotary has continued to throw their weight behind the community in every way possible.”

There will be activities and entertainment throughout the day including guest speakers; a range of exhibitors from local and regional hobby, sporting and lifestyle groups; mental health and wellbeing organisations; and a range of activities for youth.

Corporate Governance, Youth and Community Engagement Councillor Tanya Milligan, chair of the Human Social Recovery Committee, encouraged residents of all ages to come along.

“A healthy community promotes healthy lifestyles,” Cr Milligan said.

“We certainly encourage everyone to pop in and have a browse at what will be on offer come Saturday 15 October.”

Highlights of the day will include: Lockyer Valley Art and Photography Exhibition; a range of interactive presentations, including beyondblue, DEEDI, Cancer Council Queensland, GP Connections and Lockyer Legend Derek Pingel; entertainment and activities for the kids; a free community barbecue dinner and a special screening of “The Happy Movie”.

Flyers are available from your local Library, Visitor Information Centre or Council Office.
